Where generic translation breaks down
Machinery text is dense with terms that look interchangeable and are not. A “guard” is not a “cover”. “Lockout” is not “shutdown”. Torque values, clearances and units must survive translation exactly. A machine translation engine, or a translator without an engineering background, produces text that reads plausibly — and tells a technician to do the wrong thing in fluent German.
The second failure mode is inconsistency. A 400-page manual translated by whoever was available calls the same valve three different names by chapter 12. Technicians notice. So do the auditors reviewing your conformity file.
